This resource list is designed to help you find the nutritious foods and products you need to be healthy, both locally and online.  To reduce toxins in our food and environment, there are sources for useful and safe cookware, kitchen equipment, personal care, household cleaning supplies, and garden supplies. The page will be continually updated so check back occasionally for the latest sources.

Houston Area Food Resources

For Houston area sources of Real Food and other healthy products, go to the Local Food & Milk page on the website of the Houston Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF).  There are listings for raw milk, raw milk cheese, pastured meats, pastured eggs, organic produce, fermented foods, delivery services, and much more.

Using the Real Food Houston Resource List

The list is divided into five main categories: Food and Cooking Resources, Personal Care Products (includes personal and tooth care products and organic clothing, Household Products (includes cleaners, mattresses, and bedding), Garden and Farm Products, and Other Bloggers’ Resource Lists.

The sources are listed alphabetically under each topic.  There is no implied quality ranking due to the position in the list.

The items listed with each vendor are often just a small sample of the available products. Visit the website for a complete list of products. Many of these products can also be bought through Amazon.

Disclosure: none of the links below are affiliate links, including the Amazon links.  I get no compensation if you buy a listed product, neither do I guarantee the performance of any product.  This list and links are provided solely as a service to help you find the products you need.   I have noted vendors that I have used by an asterisk *; otherwise, I have no personal experience with the vendor.  Some are recommended as good or best by the Weston A. Price Foundation.

Food and Cooking Resources [back to the list]

Milk and Cheese

The best milk is whole and raw from local licensed dairies. For Texas licensed dairies in the greater Houston area, go to Local. For other raw milk dairies in the U.S., including other parts of Texas, go to RealMilk.com.

There is another raw milk finder that lists sources in other countries in addition to the US, https://GetRawMilk.com.

If you are unable to find raw milk in your area, the next best option is raw milk cheese.  The last choice would be whole, low-temperature pasteurized, non-homogenized milk from grass-fed cows.  Conventional, ultra-pasteurized, or homogenized milk is not recommended.

Raw milk cheeses not only taste better they also have all the healthy, nutritious qualities of fresh raw milk. Some grocery stores stock raw milk cheeses.  Ask the attendant at the cheese counter.  For example, all parmigiano reggiano cheese imported from Italy is raw milk cheese because Italy controls the brand and requires it to be raw.  There are several excellent raw milk cheeses available in the Houston area. See Local.

Regeneration International has posted a locator map for regenerative farms. You can enter your zip code or address and specify the number of miles to search to get a list of regenerative farms, including meat and dairy, in that area.  Regenerative Farm Map   [Note: The listings on this website have not been validated.]

Online sources of raw milk cheese:

  • Alpine Heritage Creamery in Paradise, PA, offers hand-crafted cheeses from 100% grass-fed cows. A WAPF chapter leader recommends their Reserve Cheddar. Their cheese is organic, grass-fed from Jersey cows, and uses organic calf rennet.
  • Azure Standard offers quality bulk and natural foods through home delivery (UPS or USPS) or drop-off sites (there are several in the Houston area).  Their offerings include raw milk and organic cheeses.
  • * Brazos Valley Cheese for raw cow milk cheeses
  • Hilltop Meadow Farm for raw milk cheeses.  They are an Amish family and don’t have a website.  Please call Eunice at: 570 345 3305 for pricing and shipping costs.  A customer maintains a Facebook page because she loves their cheese.  The farm is listed in the WAPF Shopping Guide under Best for cheese.
  • Miller’s Organic Farm for raw cow, goat, and sheep milk cheeses.  They now also have camel milk.
  • River Whey Creamery for a variety of raw cow milk cheeses
  • US Wellness for raw grass-fed cow and goat milk cheeses
  • Veldhuizen Farmstead for raw cow milk cheeses (available in Houston at Houston Dairymaids)

Sources of butter from grass-fed cows:

If raw butter is not available from your local raw milk dairy, the next best is commercial butter made with milk from grass-fed cows.  Most of the time, I use Kerrygold butter from Ireland made from milk from (mostly) grass-fed cows because it is widely available in many grocery stores, health food stores, and on Amazon, and it tastes very good.  Texas blogger, Food Renegade, has an excellent article about commercial sources of butter from grassfed cows, Where to Find Grass-fed Butter.

Grass-fed beef, pastured meat, eggs from pastured chickens, and seafood [back to the list]
