Where to go in Houston for Organic Gardening and Feed Supplies – Wabash Antiques & Feed Store
I first learned of the Wabash Antiques & Feed Store last year when looking for a local Houston supplier of Coyote Creek organic feed. Then, last week, just by accident, I actually visited the Wabash store on Washington Avenue when my daughter and I went to eat lunch at the Bare Bowls Kitchen food truck. Every Sunday, the food truck is parked in front of the Wabash as part of the Urban Pickins Farmer’s Market. So after we enjoyed our bowls, we wandered through the Wabash store and visited the vendors at the farmers market.
The Wabash store has been around Houston in one form or another for over one hundred years. It was named ‘Wabash’ by the owner in the 1970’s, Manning Mann, and stands for Washington Avenue Bric-Brac, Antiques, Sundries and Hardware. It’s still locally owned and operated, and it still has a wide variety of things for sale–not just feed, organic gardening supplies, and antiques–but also hardware, livestock, pets, and even beer. Their motto is “A little bit of country in the heart of the city.” It certainly has that old fashioned feel about it. Wandering through the store, discovering all the interesting products, was somewhat like walking through a maze.
They have a wide selection of livestock, including chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dove.
Whether you want seeds or seedlings, they’ve got them, both fruits and vegetables.
We love Wabash Antiques and Feed Store! Thank you for supporting local and organic farmers!
I was looking for someone to help with organic gardening however on reading your site and seeing what you offer I will have to look somewhere else. Animals are not food.
