Backyard chickens in Houston?
Do you wish you could keep a few chickens in your backyard, maybe for fresh eggs? There’s a new group, Hens for Houston, that is trying to make that possible. Their vision is “to promote a sustainable and progressive Houston in which city dwellers can keep 4-6 hens on the small city lots such as those found inside the Beltway and the 610 loop.” They want to work toward changing the current code requirements for Houston residents, which make it virtually impossible to keep chickens on city-sized lots. If you don’t want to sort through all those regulations, I found a Houston blogger, RussBLib, who has conveniently done that for us in his post Chickens for Houston?
Hens for Houston is just getting started and is looking for help on background research and in developing a proposed new ordinance. Do you have experience with backyard chickens, want to see this change, get involved? Contact them to volunteer.
